Visit to Cork

This weekend went to Cork and visited Wandesford Quay Gallery, went to see their lovely works but I was also treated to a wine and Jazz session, nice. Here are some of my favorites.

This is Anna West, she is a mixed media artist.

                                                  Lovely knits from Claire-Anne O'Brien
Metalwork jewellery from Miriam Wade

Laura McNamara ceramic artist graduated from LSAD
Not sure if the last two are Laura's but they are my favorites
                                                       Theresa Burger jewellery designer
Beautiful, but I did not get the name.

Lights through the trees!

Just a short video of an older piece which I wanted to light up a bit, coloured lights would have been nice.

After looking at Wolfgang Laib

After our progress review, my tutor gave me some artists to look up, one of them was Wolfgang Laib an artist who collects pollen and creates pieces by sieving the pollen like flour over his canvas (the light feeling which I was trying to get).
Here are a few photos of my attempts, I have used flour, tumeric and curry powder.
I have to get to grips with doing things which will not last!!
Used a straw to blow through to get this effect, then blew it all away

Black Sculpture

Taking the dandelion idea further I wanted to try and capture the blowing away or fragmenting of something in 3D and have it suspended so I tried this piece.

Ross Ching The Speeker Orchestra

When at first I was going to do my project on an Orchestra Conductor, I found this really very good video by Ross Ching called The Speeker Orchestra, if you go into the above title on google you can see how he did the video, definately worth looking at.

3D Wire & Material

After seeing some of Kendal Busters sculptures I got the idea to do this piece

3D

Put bostik glue onto the top and the bottom of the box (had to remove the sides of the box) and slowly open it up, waited a few minutes until it was tackey and blew some fluffy seeds into it box, some of them stuck to the colums.

Special Effects

Tried again to capture the lightness of the dandelion seeds by using a mist of flour squirted through a wooden fan frame onto glue on black paper. Also put some party poppers into mesh and used fan to blow them.

2D Dandelions

Acrylic paint spattered with different circular frames used with each spatter.

Used bostik , pulled it around with a matchstick blew some flour and fibres onto it.

Wire Dandelions

Copper wire spring soldered onto tin with florist oasis on top with fine wire.
Again copper wire and a finer silver wire attached to a black plastic mesh

Back to Dandelions

After many more dark paintings of my orchestra conductor I decided to go back to the dandelions, went to Fanore when the tide had gone out and did some drawings in the sand Andy Goldsworthy style, they won't last but at least I enjoyed doing them.
